Leaf Morphology: Lobing

the degree to which the blade of a leaf is indented towards the midrib (leaves are only considered lobed if indented more than 1/4 the distance from edge to midrib)

Pinnate: Lobed lobes indented one-quarter to one-half towards the midrib
Pinnate: Cleft lobes indented just over one-half towards the midrib
Pinnate: Incised lobes indented deeply to near the midrib
Palmate: Lobed lobes indented more than one-quarter, but towards the leaf base
